Classic cars judged at Concours d’Elegance

Classic cars took over the 18 th fairway at the Pebble Beach Golf Course over the weekend for the Concours d’Elegance.

Celebrities and car enthusiasts traveled to Pebble Beach for the event.

“It’s the best of the best,” said Ken Hale.

More than 200 rare and historic cars and motorcycles were judged.

This year the Best in Show went to a 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A.

NewsChannel 5 also spoke with the owners of two different Rolls Royce models who each won first place in their competitions.

“I’ve been here many times before and never won before so this makes up for it all,” said Orwin Smith owner of a 1933 Rolls Royce.

“Being an athlete you don’t expect anything and you just do your best and hope tomorrow is better than today. For me, I can’t do better than this to win two prizes so I’m very happy,” said Ion Tiriac owner of a 1952 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV.

The fancy cars also brought out big name stars including former gymnast and Olympic Champion Nadia Comaneci who was there supporting her friend Ion Tiriac.

The first woman race car driver to finish the La Carrera PanaAmericana race in Mexico also brought her 1956 Porsche to the Central Coast for car week.

Renee Brinkerhoff told News Channel 5 the race is a grueling 2,000 mile, 7 day race across the country.

“It is the greatest accomplishment. People go year after year and never finish it because it is so hard,” said Renee Brinkerhoff.

Brinkerhoff conquered the race not once, but twice. Her goal is to finish in the top 10 when she competes in the race next time.
