UPDATE: Police arrest teen for Monterey High bomb threat

UPDATE 8/12/15 2:49p.m.: Monterey Police say its officers and those of PRVNT, the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team, arrested a teenage boy for the threats made Tuesday night.

Investigators say the 15-year-old was arrested Wednesday at about 1:00 p.m. at his home in Seaside. They do not believe he is enrolled in any local high school.

The boy will be booked at Monterey County Juvenile Hall for making threats and falsely reporting an explosive. Based on the preliminary evidence, law enforcement officers believes the boy was acting alone.

PREVIOUS STORY: Monterey County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad officers were called to Monterey High School Tuesday night around 10:00p.m. after receiving reports of a bomb threat.

Law enforcement tells News Channel 5 the threat was sent online to the school at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday.

All schools are in session Wednesday. There is an increased police presence on campus at Monterey High.

This note was posted to the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District website Wednesday morning:

“The safety and well-being of students and staff is a high priority of Monterey High School and the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Last evening authorities made school administrators aware of suspicious activity on or around the MHS campus. The school has been working closely with law enforcement to investigate. Due to the pending investigation, we are not able to share specific details; however, we did want to make parents aware that the concerns are being addressed in an appropriate manner.
To ensure a safe school year, we encourage you to share any information that your student shares with you about school safety in general. We encourage you to contact the school if you have any concerns. You may call us directly at 831-392-3801 or you may access the Tip Line on our website at http://wcms-mpusd-ca.schoolloop.com/.
