Overnight storms spark fires and power outages

Storms on Thursday night brought rolling thunder, lightning and rain to the Central Coast.

According to Cal Fire, crews battled five fires in the Carmel Valley area, all of which were sparked by lightning and are now contained. A full report on those fires is expected from Cal Fire on Friday.

The storm prompted power outages for more than 2,000 people in Moss Landing and Castroville. PG&E customers in Carmel Valley, Watsonville, Soledad and Salinas also reported a loss of power overnight.

As of 7:37 a.m., PG&E is working on an outage still affecting about 230 customers in San Benito.
