Salinas sends letter to DA on Councilman Castaneda’s political behavior

The City of Salinas is seeking assistance from the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office in trying to get Councilman Jose Castaneda to comply with three California political obligations.

According to a letter sent to DA Dean Flippo July 31, Castaneda hasn’t met three necessary requirements for his November 2014 campaign run for City Council.

The letter was signed by City Attorney Chris Callihan and Mayor Joe Gunter.

The letter states Castaneda still needs to complete a Statement of Economic Interests, a semi-annual Consolidated Campaign Disclosure Form and mandatory ethics training.

On Tuesday, Callihan said the letter was sent to the DA’s office for “purposes of determining whether they are interested in pursuing a criminal prosecution.”

NewsChannel 5 left a message for Castaneda on Tuesday for a response.
