UPDATE: Investigators unable to identify woman killed in Salinas crash

UPDATE 11:31 a.m.: California Highway Patrol said the identity of the woman killed in a crash just before midnight Sunday evening in Salinas on Highway 101 south of the Main Street exit has not been determined yet.

Officers said the driver accused of hitting the woman, who was walking southbound in the northbound slow lane wearing dark clothing, as Laura Hines, 28, of Salinas.

Officers said Hines was driving a gray 2008 Mercedes at about 65 miles per hour and the victim was killed on impact. Hines pulled over to the right shoulder and no alcohol or drugs are suspected, officers said.

Highway 101 was completely shut down from about 11:38 p.m. until about 3:40 a.m. and traffic was routed onto Market Street.
