Making a Difference, Loaves Fishes & Computers

Belinda Garcia hopes to work for a major tech company someday. It was a dream that seemed impossible for the mother of two, until she came to Loaves Fishes and Computers.

“I wanted to do something for myself and get a good job so I can be a role model for my kids” said Garcia who now volunteer with L.F.C.

L.F.C. is a nonprofit tech store that provides low cost and previously owned computers to families who are struggling financially.

“L.F.C is an organization that tries to bring technology to people who couldn’t otherwise afford it,” said Jordon Azevedo, who works as the company’s volunteer coordinator. “You bring in a computer that doesn’t work and we can turn it into a computer that has the ability to access the internet or do homework for somebody else.”

Since 2009, the company has supplied low cost computers to more than 1,300 families and community organizations across Monterey County. It served as an opportunity to bring technology to people who might not have access to it any other way. In addition to providing these used computers, L.F.C. also gives volunteers hands on job training.

“Our ability to get technology into the hands of people who really need it. People who are trying to learn and grow, that’s our impact” says Azevedo.

For Garcia, it gives her an opportunity to learn computer skills to help her get back on her feet from a store that’s making a difference for one local mom and countless others, one computer at a time.
