Man in critical condition after being hit by car Saturday night in Salinas, police said

A 40-year-old man is in the hospital Sunday after he was run over Saturday night while crossing the street in Salinas, police said.

Just before 9 p.m., the pedestrian, who had no identification, was in the crosswalk of East Alisal Street and Smith Street when he was hit by an Acura Integra, police said. The car was traveling east on Alisal Street.

The pedestrian “sustained severe injuries to his face, head and left side of his body,” police said in a news release. He was sent to Natividad Medical Center, and at last check he’s in critical but stable condition, police added.

The driver was a 31-year-old man who cooperated with police and, according to officers, did not show signs of intoxication.

No arrests were mentioned in the news release.
