UPDATE: Four people sent to the hospital during hazmat investigation at Del Monte Shopping Center

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Monterey Fire crews said possibly as many as 12 people came in contact with the suspicious fluid on a package at Del Monte Shopping Center Wednesday afternoon. Crews said four people were taken to the hospital.

UPDATE 1:34 p.m.: Monterey Fire confirms a package was delivered to the Apple store at Del Monte Shopping Center Wednesday afternoon with some moisture on the outside of the item.

Crews said the package never went inside and hazmat crews are evaluating it away from the store.

They said seven people had symptoms of nausea and dizziness. Two people were taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the other five are being evaluated on scene, crews said.

UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: Monterey police said the Apple store at Del Monte Shopping Center has been evacuated. They said some people are being evaluated by paramedics after fluids were reported leaking from a package.
