UPDATE: Pinnacles fire started by CALTRANS crews mowing brush

UPDATE 5/12/15 4:09p.m.: Crews say the final acreage is 6.5 acres burned and the fire was started by a spark from machinery as CALTRANS workers mowed brush near the Pinnacles entrance.

A total of 75 fire personnel were on scent and contained the fire just before 12:30p.m.

Crews will be on scene monitoring hot spots at least until nightfall.

UPDATE 5/12/15 2:23p.m.: CALFIRE is reporting that the fire which ended up being 10 acres is now 100% contained. Crews will continue to mop up hot spots and monitor conditions for the next several hours. Still no word on what cause the fire.

UPDATE 5/12/15 12:39p.m.: CALFIRE crews say updated estimates put the fire in the Pinnacles at 10 acres. However, crews in the air have been released of their duties because teams are making good progress on containment.

There are about 100 fire personnel on scene.

5/12/15 11:44a.m.: CALFIRE crews are battling a fire that started around 11:00am Tuesday morning near the entrance to the Pinnacles National Park.

Right now crews estimate the fire to be about five acres in size and it’s burning near the east entrance to Pinnacles at Highway 25 and Paicines Highway.

CALFIRE has two dozers, six engines, two crews, two air tankers and a helicopter on scene.
