Law enforcement stepping up patrols in South Monterey County after violent weekend
After a violent weekend, Monday was an all hands on deck kind of night. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, King City police, and Greenfield officers are patrolling King City.
“We’ve augmented the king city police department with two more patrol
deputies and greenfield pd is also adding two deputies and The California
highway patrol is adding two officers,” said Sgt. Michael Darlinton with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Over the weekend, law enforcement resonded to three homicides in three days. All incidents are believed to be gang-related.
“When rival gangs shoot each other and you have victims they want to
retaliate and it just goes back and fourth,” said Darlington.
With the Salinas Valley Fair coming up next weekend in King City, law enforcement wants to have a big presense – making people feel safe.
“We will have additional staffing from law enforcement, not just within
the fair, fairgrounds, but in the community as well,” said King City Mayor Robert Cullen.
During this time of recent violence, law enforcement is really relying on the commuity to help stop crime.
