Teenage girl shoots herself with Gilroy Officer’s gun

A teenage girl is recovering tonight after reportedly shooting herself in the leg with a Gilroy Police Officers gun.

Police and fire units responded to a home in the 500 block of El Cerrito Way this afternoon on reports of a teenage girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. A Gilroy Police Officer lives at the home.

Police say, so far, it appears the girl got the officers gun and accidentally shot herself in the leg. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.

The investigation is being done by the Gilroy Police Department’s Investigation Unit, before being sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office.
