Monterey County crisis team supervisor heads to Sudan

Monterey County’s Crisis team supervisor will be traveling to South Sudan on a mission to use her skills dealing with trauma for mothers and kids there.

Her main goal is to help out in any way that she can.

Devon Corpus said she will be traveling between the border of South Sudan and Uganda with a group from Salinas Valley Community Church. Corpus said she’ll mainly be dealing with refugees who have been forced out of their homes due to the violence there.

She said she doesn’t have an agenda but she is looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m definitely going to learn things that I can bring back. You know ways of dealing with trauma in a different light. How these people in another culture have coped, you know and continue to go on every single day with some of the atrocities they’ve faced,” Corpus said.

Corpus will head out in June and be gone for a couple of weeks.
