North Salinas HS on lockdown lifted, bomb squad clears threat

UPDATE 2:04 p.m.: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad said a galvanized pipe was discovered in a hallway at North Salinas High School Wednesday morning.

They said students closest to that part of the school were evacuated while agents X-rayed the pipe. Investigators said it had coverings on both ends but was not explosive.

UPDATE 12:01 p.m.: NewsChannel 5’s Michelle Pulido reports that all officers have cleared the scene in front of North Salinas High School. School administrators said the lockdown beginning around 11:00 a.m. has been lifted because police determined there wasn’t a threat.

Officers said the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was called out to examine the object and it was deemed safe.

Salinas police said the lockdown should be lifted soon after officers clear the scene.
