King City police investigates a shooting outside movie theater

UPDATE 2/18/15 9:24 a.m.: King City police said a Hispanic male was shot once in his leg around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near King City Cinemas.

The victim was taken to the hospital. Officers said the shooting was unprovoked and is gang affiliated.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

UPDATE 4:12 p.m.: Hartnell College administrators said the lockdown at King City Education Center was lifted at 2:45 p.m. They said classes for the 1 p.m. afternoon session were cancelled but classes will resume tonight.

UPDATE 1:57 p.m.: On Tuesday, King City police said around 12:30 p.m., a male victim was shot near a bench in front of King City Cinemas in a courtyard in the 200 block of Broadway Street. Officers said the victim ran to safety with gunshot wounds and was later taken to the hospital.

Police are now looking at surveillance video and speaking with witnesses. They also said there’s only a vague description of the suspect.

Hartnell College’s King City Education Center was on lockdown during the investigation. Adminstrators said the campus was between sessions and students in the afternoon session are still waiting for the lockdown to be lifted.

Police said Monterey County Social Services was also placed on lockdown.

UPDATE 12:45 p.m.: A Hartnell College employee at the King City extension reports a resident saw a shooting near campus and reported the information to administrators.

The campus is now on lockdown for all employees while police are on-scene investigating.

Administrators said classes haven’t started for the day yet but typically begin a 1 p.m. They anticipate the lockdown being lifted, allowing students to attend class on Tuesday.
