‘Restaurant Row’ property in Hollister up for sale

A local property owner is selling a major chunk of land and hopes the payoff will be new development for the city of Hollister.

The land along the Highway 25 entrance into the city has been in Jim De La Pena’s wife’s family for over 50 years. He is hoping whoever buys the land can bring in some new business and new life to Hollister.

For years they tried to build a development called ‘Restaurant Row’ with restaurants, shops and office space. In fact, in January, the Local Agency Formation Commission approved the property’s annexation into the city. But because of a struggling economy, the project never came to life.

Where you see weeds and open space, De La Pena hopes a buyer will see possibilities; space for cafes and stores to attract locals.

“A lot of the legwork has been done,” De La Pena said. “The service station from there, all the way to the end of the mustard there’s a total of 4.63 acres ready to develop.”

Development that could bring a better quality of life for neighbors and especially, bring more jobs to the area.

“It’s gonna really be a boon to whoever decides to buy and develop and bring revenue to the city’s coffers,” De La Pena said.

There are three parcels up for sale. The list price for the entire 4.6 acres is $1.5 million.
