Country star Clay Walker thanks volunteers with Friday night concert

On Thursday, NewsChannel 5’s Michelle Pulido spoke with celebrities participating in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club.

One group the celebs always recognize are the volunteers who spend countless hours making this a memorable event.

This year alone there are about 2,000 volunteers who are helping run this tournament. They do everything from transportation, first aid, hospitality. Many of them prepare months in advance, going through training, orientation.

Volunteer teams donate about 48,000 hours each year. It takes 30 members of the course maintenance team each day just to prepare the Pebble Beach Golf Links. It’s a lot of work and celebrities said that’s why they make sure to recognize all these hard working volunteers.

“I’m going to give my hats off to them. I’m doing a concert for all the volunteers’ right here on campus. So it’s going to be a great night, great week,” said county recording artist Clay Walker.

Walker said concert will be tomorrow night and organizers said it’s been a tradition for some years now. This year alone, 79 volunteers are celebrating 40 years of service to the Pro-Am.
