Plans for skate park at Monterey Park in Capitola moving forward

Plans for a skate park in Capitola are moving forward, after a 3-2 vote by city council Wednesday.

The project was introduced by two residents and proposes a 6,000 square-foot skate park at Monterey Park entirely funded by private donors.

Organizer Marie Martorella said, “We do not have a skate park facility for the children here. You can’t skateboard anywhere within city limits – it’s illegal.”

The discussion at city hall drew dozens of residents to the public hearing. Most were in support of the project, but some residents complained about increased traffic and noise.
