Middle School lockdown lifted after police activity ends in Castroville

UPDATE 6:40 p.m.: Monterey County Sheriff deputies say they were serving an eviction notice at home on Blevins Way near North Monterey County middle school, when a deputy ran a license plate check on several parked cars in the driveway. One of those cars came up connected to a wanted felon with a violent history including weapons and stolen cars.
That’s when more patrol units and the helicopter was called in forcing the junior high to go on lock down.
Eventually all the tenants inside of the home came out and neighbors say they’ve known the family who owned the home for years.

“His uncle did, then his mom, then obviously he’s the one whose been staying in the home,” said neighbor Jaime Vargas.

The tenant told NewsChannel 5 they thought they had until Sunday to move out of the home. No one was arrested. As for the suspect linked to the car in the driveway, the sheriff’s deputies are still looking for him.

UPDATE 1:01 p.m.: A lockdown at North Monterey County Middle School has been lifted due to police activity in the area.

The school said students were under lockdown orders starting at 11:55 a.m., lasting about 45 minutes.

Administrators said it was just a precautionary move to protect the school from deputies serving an eviction notice at a home nearby.

UPDATE 12:31 p.m.: NewsChannel 5’s Mariana Hicks reports deputies are trying to hail a man out of a home on Blevins Way in Castroville.

A K9 has been deployed to help in executing an eviction notice on the home. Deputies said the people inside the home are refusing to come out.
