Mudslides close Highway 9 on Monday near county line

UPDATE 2/9/15 10:42 a.m.: Santa Cruz County Caltrans said all lanes of Highway 9 are closed near the Santa Cruz/Santa Clara County Line due to mudslides from the recent storm. Crews estimate the highway will re-open at 5pm Monday evening.

Caltrans said lanes are closed specifically from the Junction with State Route 236 (Waterman’s Gap) to the Junction with State Route 35.

UPDATE 2/8/15 4:45 p.m.– More than 1600 customers are without power in Santa Cruz County as rain continues to pour.

In the city of Watsonville, 1,513 customers are without power and in Soquel 1,074 customers are also without power, according to the Pacific Gas and Electric Outage Center.

PREVIOUS STORY– As rain and wind continues to hit the Central Coast, several trees and power lines have fallen including on top of homes.

At about 11 a.m. a tree broke in half knocking down power lines before falling on top of a home on Irwin Way in Boulder Creek, according to crew officials from Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

PG&E crews are still on scene working to repair the power line.

As of 3 p.m. nearly 2,000 customers are without power in Santa Cruz County. In Monterey County, 144 customers are without power in Pacific Grove.
