Carport and vehicle catch on fire in Scotts Valley

UPDATE 5:12pm: Fire crews say a carport and vehicle fire on El Rancho Drive in Scotts Valley is now out.

Crews are now cleaning up the mess left behind. Communications managers say it was initially reported as a vegetation fire by witnesses. Crews say there’s significant damage to the structure, which is attached to the carport.

Crews say a mobile home was actually where the fire started, then jumped to nearby vegetation before being put out. Neighbors told NewsChannel 5 the mobile home is an illegal dwelling.

No one was in the home at the time, a dog escaped without injury.
