Police: Suspect found on roof after fleeing from crash in Salinas
A routine traffic stop led to a car crash, a foot pursuit and an arrest all in one night in Salinas, police said.
Ryan Hoyt, 24, was arrested for evading arrest, DUI, hit and run, and resisting arrest, according to Salinas Police.
Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, an officer noticed a white Mercedes spinning its tires and driving recklessly on North Main Street near Cassentini Street.
Police said when the officer attempted to stop Hoyt, he didn’t stop, and instead sped off on Cassentini Street. Hoyt turned left on Rico Street and then continued on Hyde Street where he crashed into a parked car and flipped over, police said.
Hoyt then bailed and hopped a couple of fences in the neighborhood. Officers gave chase and an hour later they located him on top of someone’s roof on Rico Street, police said.
Fire crews had to set up ladders to get him down. Police said Hoyt briefly fought with officers before he was taken into custody.
In the initial search for Hoyt, some residents were told to stay inside and lock their doors. There was no mandatory lockdown in the area.
He was under the influence of alcohol, Police said.
Hoyt was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
