A lot of cleanup left to do on Central Coast after big storm

After a messy rainy day, the cleanup continues from Hollister to Watsonville.

By late morning to mid-day Friday, things were starting to clear up on the roadways but they were are a long way from being back to normal for a lot of areas on the Central Coast.

Pajaro Dunes looked more like the Pajaro lakes Friday along Beach St.

“It was pretty crazy,” said Carol Turley of the Home Owner’s Association at Pajaro Dunes. She had her staff working around the clock to fix the flooding, which climbed to 1.5 feet at its peak in the early morning hours of Friday.

“I’m kind of you know, the captain of the ship,” Turley said. “If I expect them to do it, I’m going to stay here until the end.

CAL FIRE says they opened the river mouth at 10 a.m. and by 1 p.m.. the depth dropped by a foot as water was sucked out of the roadway, allowing drivers to trek through it.

Over in Hollister, crews scraped up a mudslide forcing Southside School to shutdown for the day.

In Watsonville, Jerry Allison Landscaping looked to be in bad shape because of flooding, but General Manager Scot Rysdale said he knows he has to wait for the water drain out.

“We live in the middle of a strawberry field, it’s a beautiful area, we’re used to it,” Rysdale said.
