UCSC students protest Ferguson verdict downtown

Local protests surrounding Monday’s verdict in Michael Brown’s case have sparked on the Central Coast. About 50 people, including UC Santa Cruz students, gathered at the clock tower in downtown Santa Cruz, after marching down several streets.

Students said they wanted to gather people along the way.
Many of them held signs with messages showing their frustration with law enforcement.

A moment of silence was held during the protest. UCSC students said its important to show solidarity.

“They see very serious issues of economic inequality underlying that and they see issues of injustice and very serious racism blog police oppression in Ferguson and they want to fight for a better world, and that’s the connection,” said UCSC student Asad Haider.

The group shared stories about experiences with racism and what they call police brutality.
