Two arrested in Seaside shooting that left 23-year-old dead

Seaside police arrested two people in connection to a shooting that killed 23-year-old Isaac David Iglesias.

A join effort over the weekend led to the arrest of Sergio Guevara Calvo and a minor.

Investigators said that on November 12 the suspects walked up to a home on the 1200 block of Hamilton Avenue in Seaside and shot Iglesias, who was in front of his driveway with his brother and friend.

The two other men were able to escape but Iglesias was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas where he died from his injuries the next day.

Police said Iglesias was not in a gang and that this deadly shooting was a random act of violence.

Witnesses were able to give officers a description of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting.

“Fortunately our officers know our gang members well, and know what they drive,” explained Seaside Police commander Judy Straden.

Stradan said investigators followed the suspects and found a gun and other evidence that led to their arrest. Police also believe that the night after shooting and killing Iglesias, the two struck again.

“The night after the homicide on the 13th. We had a shooting near Darwin and San Pablo streets. Nothing was hit, we were also able to tie the same suspects we arrested for this homicide to that shooting,” said Stradan.

Both suspects are being charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and Participation in a Criminal Street Gang.
