Burglary suspect hides on a school campus in Salinas

Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. after a burglary suspect was hiding on campus.

It started when a 23-year-old man, along with a 14-year-old boy broke into a house on Antelope Drive. The homeowner heard someone entering her house. That’s when she grabbed her two young children, hid in a closet and called 911.

When police officers arrived to the house both burglars ran from the scene. The 23-year-old was found and arrested. The 14-year-old jumped over a fence, ran onto the school campus and hid by a classroom.

A Salinas probation officer was driving around in the area when he heard 911 dispatchers reporting a burglar at large nearby. The probation officer spotted the teen and ordered the school on lockdown.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with resisting arrest and burglary.
