Postal Service to add 7 day a week delivery on Central Coast

The Postal Service kicked off the holiday shipping season today by announcing it will be delivering packages seven days a week through Christmas Day including in most Central Coast postal district cities. Double digit growth in package volume, 12% over last year’s holiday season, has prompted the Postal Service to extend package deliveries to 7 days a week.

“The Postal Service ships more packages to more places than anyone else,” said Bay-Valley District Manager Mark Martinez. “While Santa holds the world record on the number of house visits in one day, even he has to rely on the most sophisticated delivery system in the world – the United States Postal Service.”

USPS now has a special contract with Amazon and currently deliver their packages on Sundays. Now with the holiday volume at the USPS, they’ll add Sunday delivery service for USPS packages as well.

Sunday package delivery continues their service as the nation’s mail carrier continues to respond to the increase in package business stemming from the growth in e-commerce.

Every household in America relies on the USPS to get their packages delivered home for the holidays no matter how far away the sender roams. “This is truly our season at the Postal Service,” said Martinez. “We’ve been doing it longer than anyone, delivering the holidays so that our season truly becomes the season for our customers.”

Due to continued e-commerce growth and improvements to its Priority Mail product line, the Postal Service is expecting double-digit growth in its package business this holiday season, projected to reach 470 million packages. That’s an increase of 50 million more packages over the same period last year.
