Three suspected gang members arrested in Salinas

Three alleged gang members were arrested in Salinas Thursday afternoon on suspicion of various charges.

Officers with the Salinas Police Department’s Violence Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations at Los Coches and Klamath. During the traffic stop, officers observed a loaded firearm in the glove box. The car’s occupants, Carlos Velasquez and Diego Damien, both 18 years old, were arrested and booked in Monterey County Jail on suspicion of numerous gang and weapon charges.

Later on Thursday, members of the same unit served a search warrant at a resident on the 400 block of East Alvin Drive. Two handguns were found inside, one of which had been reported stolen and the other which had obliterated serial numbers.

A dormant butane honey oil lab also was found inside the home, police said.

Abraham Renteria, 18, was arrested on suspicion of various firearm, gang and drug manufacturing charges. He was booked into Monterey County Jail.
