Prosthetic limbs recovered after car theft in Capitola

A pair of expensive, custom-made prosthetic arms stolen earlier this month in Capitola have been returned.

Capitola police said that an unknown citizen dropped the limbs off at the Sheriff’s Office service center in Felton on Wednesday.

The limbs were inside a 1995 Toyota SUV stolen from outside a Capitola residence on Oct. 14. The car was parked outside of a home where an Aromas woman works as an in-home caretaker. The limbs, valued at $12,950, belong to her husband.

Police said his quality of life was substantially diminished by the loss of the prosthetic arms.

The vehicle was recovered Tuesday on 30th Avenue in Capitola but the prosthetics were not inside.
