Shooting in Salinas sends one to the hospital

A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times on Cherokee Drive Tuesday evening, Salinas police said.

Officers responded to report of shots fired around 7 p.m. and shortly thereafter, the call was upgraded to be a shooting with one confirmed victim inside a residence.

Officers arrived and found the man down in the living room of the home, with several gunshot wounds. Investigators determined he’d been sitting outside in a parked car when someone approached and began firing into the car.

The victim went to a nearby home for assistance. He was taken to Natividad Medical Center for treatment, where he was reportedly in stable condition as of Wednesday.

The incident is still under investigation.
