Capitola Police: Stolen car contained man’s prosthetic arms

A car recently stolen from a Capitola home contained a man’s expensive custom prosthetic limbs, police said Wednesday.

The 1995 Toyota 4-Runner was reported stolen from the 4200 block of Capitola Road on Oct. 14.

Two custom prosthetic arms valued at approximately $12,950 were inside the vehicle when it was taken, and their loss has substantially affected the victim’s quality of life, Capitola police said.

The vehicle is described as dark blue with oxidization on the front hood, a cracked windshield and tinted rear windows. There are parking stickers on the left lower side of the windshield, a Bill’s Wheels sticker on the rear window and large, after-market mud tires. The license plate number is 6PRP287.

Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down and recovering the vehicle and the prosthetic limbs, as well as the person or persons who took them. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Moreno at 475-4242 or the SCARE tipline at 465-7433.
