CHP: Aptos woman struck two men with her car, fled

An Aptos man was airlifted to Stanford University Hospital Wednesday morning after he was struck by a driver and pinned between the car and a guardrail in northern Santa Cruz County.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Brad Sadek says the 50-year-old man and a 41-year-old Aptos man were walking along the side of Highway 1 near Scott Creek, just north of Davenport, just before 9 a.m. He says he believes the two men were checking out the surf conditions there.

Ashley Robinson, 19, was driving southbound on the road when she swerved into the shoulder, striking one of the men, Sadek said. The second man, who was on the other side of the guardrail, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Robinson kept going, driving into the city of Santa Cruz, where she was stopped by a Santa Cruz Police officer near Mission and Swift streets. She pulled into a nearby car wash, where she was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence of drugs.

Robinson, an Aptos resident, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

The victims’ conditions were not immediately known.
