Suspect gets 50 years in prison in 2011 Castroville murder

A 22-year-old Castroville man has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting in 2011.

Alberto Cortez, 22, was convicted of first-degree murder, street terrorism and enhancements for use of a firearm and gang involvement.

Jose Cisneros was shot multiple times on Haight Street in Castroville in May 2011. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting was caught on security footage from cameras mounted on a nearby home. That led detectives to a vehicle and two suspects, whom they later identified as Cortez and 26-year-old Fernando Miranda.

Cortez was identified as the shooter. Miranda was identified as the driver and the lookout.

Miranda was on active parole for a gang crime at the time of the shooting and records from his GPS bracelet placed him at the scene of the shooting, as did the video footage.

Miranda pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, as well as gang enhancements. He was sentenced to 42 years, 4 months in prison.
