Dogs rescued from parked car in Monterey now available for adoption

Fourteen dogs rescued from a parked car in Monterey in April are now available for adoptions, officials with the SPCA for Monterey County said.

In April, four adult dogs and 10 puppies were found stacked in seven tiny, filthy crates in a parked car. The dogs were kept as many as four to a crate, and the crates averaged only 20″ long by 13″ wide by 11″ tall in size.

The owner, identified as Betty Bustamante, told SPCA officials that they were stealing her money because she could sell the dogs for up to $2,000 a piece in Carmel.

Bustamante faces charges for animal neglect. Tuesday, she failed to appear in Monterey County Superior Court for a third time.

Meanwhile, the dogs have been treated and are available for adoption. They’ve been named after members of the San Francisco Giants in honor of the team’s big win.

The dogs range in age from seven months to seven years old. All SPCA adoptions come with the pet’s spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, health evaluation, pet food and microchipping.

Their names are: Panda, Posey, Pence, Crawford, Brandon, Madison, Romo, Hudson, Vogelsong, Morse, Peavy, Jeremy, Bochy, and Amy G.

To adopt, please visit the SPCA at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway across from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca or visit the website for more information.
