Website names UC Santa Cruz top college for Hispanic students

UC Santa Cruz has been named the top university in the nation for Hispanic/Latino students.

Bestcolleges.com selected UCSC as number one on its top 50 list, citing the college’s Chicano Latino Resource Center, first-year retention rate of 91 percent and 74 percent graduation rate.

UCSC officials report that the school’s enrollment of Hispanic/Latino students has been about 30 percent in the past few years.

Schools in California and Texas account for the bulk of the list.

Locally, Cal State Monterey Bay also is included amongst the top 50, ranking at number 27.
