Plane “belly lands” at Marina airport Monday morning

A small plane “belly landed” at the Marina Municipal Airport Monday morning.

That means the plane landed without its landing gear fully extended, meaning the plane uses it underside –or belly –as its primary landing device.

The Marina Police and Fire Department responded to reports of a crashed plane at the airport around 9 a.m. There, they found a single-engine Moody airplane on the runway resting on its belly. The pilot was out of the aircraft and was not injured.

The pilot told responders that the landing gear collapsed while landing on the runway.

The National Transportation Safety Board was notified and the airplane was removed from the runway.
