Santa Cruz neighborhood temporarily placed on lockdown Thursday
Santa Cruz Police arrested a 60-year-old man Thursday after he allegedly brandished a replica firearm and made threats to a coworker.
The incident prompted a temporary lockdown of the area of Post, Pioneer and Limekiln streets.
According to Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark, officers received a report of a man making threats at the vending machine company he works at on Post Street.
Police blocked off several street streets around the business and sent an advisory to residents and businesses to “shelter in place” until the incident was resolved.
When officers arrived, Bischoff was still at the business. Witnesses told police he was upset about his personal property being destroyed by the business, which consisted of drug paraphernalia.
A team of SWAT-trained officers made contact with Bischoff and took him into custody.
The “gun” turned out to be a BB gun made to look like a real handgun.
Bischoff was booked in Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a replica gun and making criminal threats.
The area was closed off for about an hour. No one was injured.
