Monterey County students take part in International Walk to School Day

More than 3,000 students are expected to learn about safe walking Wednesday as part of International Walk to School Day.

Safe Kids Monterey County will join with local school children and FedEx volunteers to raise awareness about pedestrian safety.

More than 250,000 children across the United States are expected to participate in the event.

“We expect a great event on Oct. 8th celebrating International Walk to School Day,” said Dave Crozier, coordinator of Safe Kids Monterey County. “It’s so important to show our children that walking safely is important. Our children learn by mimicking what they see. By walking with them on International Walk to School Day, we can show children how to walk safely.”

Safe Kids Monterey County will team up with FedEx volunteers to teach safe walking skills at Pajaro Middle School. The group will work with teachers and parents to share safety tips and demonstrate the importance of visibility and pedestrian awareness. A FedEx truck will simulate real street environments.
