Greenfield murder suspect arrested in Mexico

Updated 10/3/14: The U.S. Marshals Service said Friday that Ernesto Ochoa is now in Monterey County Jail.

Greenfield police say a man wanted in connection with a July murder has been arrested in Mexico.

With assistance from the U.S. Marshals and Mexican authorities, Ernesto Ochoa, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday.

Ochoa was arrested for the shooting death of 19-year-old Fabian Alvarado, who was fatally shot on July 30. Greenfield police said Ochoa, a documented gang member, is a U.S. citizen and will be extradited from Mexico.

Still outstanding is Juan Tapia. Tapia, 19, is considered armed and dangerous, and should be approached with extreme caution, police said.
