Salinas man arrested on suspicion of rape of UC Santa Barbara student

A Salinas man has been arrested in connection with a rape reported Wednesday at a UC Santa Barbara fraternity house.

Victor Farias, 23, was arrested and charged with raping a 19-year-old UCSB student.

Authorities say the woman reported the incident just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Farias was reportedly visiting a friend who is a member of the fraternity.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies contacted and arrested Farias at the fraternity house later that morning. Deputies were able to seize photos on Farias’ cell phone related to the alleged rape.

Farias was also found to be on active Santa Barbara County Probation for burglary. Farias is being held without bail at the Santa Barbara County Jail.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone who has information on this sexual assault or any others involving Farias, to call the IVFP at 805-683-2724 or to leave an anonymous tip, call 805-681-4171. You can also talk to a Sheriff’s deputy in person by going to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol located at 6504 Trigo Road in Isla Vista.
