SPCA for Monterey County warns pet owners about high temps

With temperatures on the Central Coast predicted to be high this week, the SPCA for Monterey County is reminding people that heat can be dangerous for animals.

Pets should be kept indoors or be provided with ample shaded areas, and fresh water must be available at all times.

Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion or possible heat stroke. Children and pets should not be left unattended in enclosed vehicles – in fact, it can be illegal to do so.

If you see a pet in distress, call the SPCA or 911.

More tips for keeping your pets safe during hot weather is available on the SPCA website.
