Broadway Avenue rehabilitation project begins in Seaside

The city of Seaside hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Broadway Avenue Street Rehabilitation project on Tuesday.

Funding from the Transportation Agency for Monterey County is being used to rehabilitate the pavement on Broadway Avenue. from Fremont Blvd. to General Jim Moore Blvd.

Reconstruction of the sidewalk curb ramps have already begun. The roadway will be under construction until late October.

Budget: $600,000
Funding Source: Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) Regional Surface Transportation Program
Project limits: Fremont Boulevard to General Jim Moore Boulevard

Project Scope: Fremont Boulevard to Noche Buena Street

Pulverize 130,500 square feet of existing asphalt and base rock to a depth of 6 inches.
Pulverization is a type of recycling which turns the existing road into a new base material.
Place approximately 2,000 tons of new asphalt on top of the compacted pulverized base material.
Reconstruct 7 curb returns to meet new American’s with Disability Act (ADA) requirements.

Project Scope: Noche Buena Street to General Jim Moore Boulevard

Replace small portions of the road damaged by roots
Seal large cracks and seams in the road
Apply 250,000 square feet of Type II slurry to the entire road
