Home destroyed in fire in Santa Cruz mountains
A fire destroyed a home in a remote area of the Santa Cruz mountains Tuesday night sparking a two acre vegetation fire that was quickly contained by Cal Fire crews.
Santa Cruz County Cal Fire Chief Scott Jalbert said crews were lucky in this case because firefighters were responding to another report of a fire on Highway 35, when they got the call to the structure fire in the same area at 1398 Bear Creek Canyon Road north of Boulder Creek.
Nine fire engines and four air tankers responded just after 6 pm.
Crews expect to be on scene for another 10 hours mopping up and making sure another fire doesn’t spark. Jalbert said there was some trouble with spotting, but they don’t expect the vegetation fire to grow.
A fire investigator is on scene trying to determine the cause.
