Two arrested in Salinas after officers spot stolen car

Two people were arrested Wednesday in Salinas on suspicion of auto theft and other charges after Salinas police officers spotted a stolen green Honda parked on Eisenhower Street.

Officers saw a woman identified as 23-year-old Kayla Marcelino of Marina remove items from the car and take them into a residence.

When officers tried to contact the residence’s occupants, Marcelino and Sasche Ownes, 28, fled out a back window and ran from the area. They were quickly apprehended and a probation search was conducted.

Officers found methamphetamine for sale and various items of stolen property. They returned the car to its lawful owner.

Ownes had outstanding felony arrest warrants for auto theft and authorities believe he’s responsible for a number of other stolen vehicles.

Ownes and Marcelino were booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of burglary tools, violating probation, and resisting arrest.
