Carmel officials discuss new bonfire guidelines

The city of Carmel is looking at ways to continue the tradition of beach bonfires while also addressing complaints regarding air quality, beach cleanliness and beachgoer safety.

Bonfires are a long-standing tradition and the city has no plans of ending it, but they would like to find a way to make it better for everyone.

Wednesday, members of the Carmel Forest and Beach Commission met at Carmel Beach to take a look at how fire rings or baskets would work.

In the coming weeks, the commission will present their suggestions to the city council.
