Another solo rower rescued in the Great Pacific Race

We reported Saturday that solo rower Darryl Farmer of Great Britain and four man British team Pacific Rowers were rescued from the Great Pacific Race. Now another solo rower, Jim Bauer had to be rescued early Sunday.

Jim Bauer’s ‘Row for Hope’ had to be rescued after his boat capsized several times in high wind and rough seas and began taking on water just after midnight.

Race organizers report that Bauer notified the Coast guard around 2 A.M. Sunday morning of his situation. At about 6 A.M., the Coast Guard arrived on scene for the rescue.

At the time of the rescue, Bauer was 53 nautical miles east of Morro Bay.

Bauer was dropped off at Monterey airport where he was checked over by an EMT and was transferred to a local hospital for further checks.

Of the 13 total teams, 8 remain in the race with four man team ‘Uniting Nations’ leading the way at just over 1600 miles from Hawaii, their final destination.
