Firefighters contain blaze in Big Basin State Park

Firefighters have contained a 3.2 acre fire on Pine Mountain in Big Basin State Park in northern Santa Cruz County, according to Cal-Fire.

It will still be another six or seven hours before the fire is completely extinguished, firefighter Ryan McCarthy said.

“It’s going to be heavy mop up,” he said.

The blaze was reported around 6 a.m. in a heavily timbered area where access is difficult, Cal Fire’s Felton headquarters reported.

Earlier, the agency thought the blaze could be as large as five acres.
