Salinas police investigating shots fired on Cherokee Drive

Salinas police are investigating reports that two males entered a Cherokee Drive garage, struck a teen with a gun and fired shots.

Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Cherokee Drive around 10:30 p.m., where they found a 16-year-old boy with a minor laceration above his eye caused by being struck with a firearm. Another boy with him was uninjured.

The two suspects fled the garage, and one of them randomly discharged his gun, hitting a vehicle and a residence. No one was struck by the gunfire.

Police said the victim was not cooperative, and the incident isn’t believed to be a random act of violence.
