San Jose man pleads no contest to stabbing 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith

A San Jose man pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing San Francisco 49ers lineback Aldon Smith in 2012.

Steven Barba, 28, was attending a party at Smith’s San Jose home in November 2012 when it turned violent. Smith tried to disperse the raucous crowd and Barba stabbed him in the torso twice. He then fled and wasn’t arrested until several months later.

Smith wasn’t seriously injured and was treated and released.

Barba also pleaded to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He’s expected to be sentenced to three years in state prison on July 15.
