Man being evaluated after reporting a burglary that brought armed Sheriff’s Deputies to home

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies say a 70-year-old Watsonville man is being evaluated for a 5150 hold after they responded to his home for reports of a burglary.

Deputies were called to the home on Green Valley Road and San Simeon just after 5:30 Friday. The homeowner, who deputies say has a history of mental illness, said he heard someone in the home with him and was protecting himself with a gun.

When deputies arrived and tried communicating with the homeowner, they received no response. They went into the home to find the man alone and unharmed.

Deputies say they removed two guns from the home and took the man to a hospital for evaluation.
