Primary 2014: Monterey County Sheriff’s Race

The heated Monterey County Sheriff’s race dragged on into the early morning hours Wednesday as elections results continued to trickle in.

As of 12:30 a.m., current Sheriff Scott Miller held the lead with just under 43 percent of the vote, followed by Steve Bernal carrying 31 percent.

Mike Richards and Fred Garcia were pulling in 14 percent and 12 percent, respectively, with 88 percent of the precincts reporting.
